The Berkshire Regional Planning Commission
, concerned about the adequacy of available real estate to support economic development, wanted to identify the types of businesses which might seek to locate or expand in the County. The Associates surveyed businesses and real estate developers in the County to identify which projects were meeting the needs of businesses, and recommended the types of real estate development which could meet future needs.
The City of Lowell
was assisted by an Associate to document underutilized industrial sites and develop a database and obtain Brownfields funding for their redevelopment.
The City of Manchester, NH
wished to develop an economic development plan to guide policies and activities, and coordinate with private initiatives. Community Investment conducted a 4 month planning process to develop a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, subsequently approved by the EDA. Community Investment assisted the locality to appoint a diverse committee, program and conducted 4 community planning sessions, analyzed the status and trends in the local economy, investigated the insights of key community institutions and actors, and composed the CEDS.
The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Tribe
sought guidance in maximizing the economic impact from tribal owned businesses in Cherokee, NC. Community Investment, with Brodie-Weiser-Burns, developed a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) that the Economic Development Administration approved, resulting in EDA funding for implementation.
The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission
needed a Preliminary Overall Economic Development Plan to support its potential EDA projects. Community Investments authored sections of the report analyzing assets, shortcomings, and strategy.
The Town of Essex
needed assistance to restructure its zoning bylaw. Ms. Britt headed a team of consultants reviewing the zoning by-law, recommending changes, reorganizing the entire by-law, and providing overall technical assistance to planning in Essex. The reorganized by-law was adopted at Town Meeting in May 2010.
The Town of Framingham, MA
witnessed a decline in the residential neighborhoods of South Framingham. Community Investments carried out a citizen participation process and completed the Neighborhood Strategic Revitalization Plan analyzing current conditions, identifying problems and opportunities, and recommending policies and activities for the Town to facilitate and support quality and affordable housing.
The Town of Maynard, MA
needed regular consulting services in several areas of community development. Community Investments assisted the Town in planning, economic development, downtown revitalization, and resource conservation.
The Town of Rockport
sought a planner to assist in subdivision and site plan review, and to work to improve the zoning by-law. Ms. Britt has worked with the Rockport Planning Board on setting up review systems, on undertaking reviews, recommending zoning changes, and undertaking a community development plan.
The Town of Scituate
, a suburban coastal community with three village centers, is undertaking a Master Plan that is consistent with Community Development Plan requirements. Community Investment Associates is authoring the housing and economic development sections, with input on growth management and implementation.
